DESCRIPTION:\nCommunicating with your elder without ending up at odds can be difficult at best. There are very real reasons why it may be difficult to talk to your elder. You will learn why conversations can become minefields and how to avoid this. We will offer information about some different ways to communicate and actively listen to your elder and important topics to discuss, such as finances, activities of daily life, advance directives and end-of-life decisions. In addition, we will discuss how to identify situations involving potential elder financial abuse by family members or third parties.\n \n \n \n     SPEAKERS:\n \n \n \nBetsy Sherry\n \nBetsy, co-author of Aging Parents the Essential Guide for Peace of Mind, is a Registered Nurse with 28 years of experience in community health. She has worked as a surgical and labor and delivery nurse as well as a school nurse administrator where she designed and implemented a health education program. At present she is a health services coordinator in a school setting. Betsy has three grown children and lives with her husband in Seekonk, Massachusetts.\n \n \n \nKristin N. Matsko, Esq.\n \nKristin counsels individuals and fiduciaries on all aspects of estate planning, estate settlement and trust administration in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. She assists clients and their families with various aspects of elder law and special needs planning. Additionally, Kristin works with attorneys in her firm’s litigation group in handling a variety of trust and estate matters including will contests, fiduciary accountings and guardianship matters.\n
